Why it's not cool to "still not know it"

Once upon a time, it was so cool to "know stuff". It still is, but it just doesn't have the same magic. You will find lesser number of people exclaiming - "Oh wow, you know so much about XYZ!". You almost had an excuse for not knowing things. Today is a different story. Information is so accessible (digitization, internet enabled devices, social media ...) that people are slowly stopping to care how much you know about something. In-fact, it is almost acceptable not to know something - for the first time. But it is not acceptable to be in the same 'unaware' state - an hour later. It just doesn't cut it. How well you can "connect the dots" or make sense of the ocean of information - well, that's all together a separate discussion.
